About the Cuckoo Flower Company
We aim to make our shop a delight to visit, full of beautiful blooms, plants, arrangements and gorgeous gifts. We will always be able to discuss your requirements either in person or over the phone as we realise that every occasion is unique.
You can of course order online at your own leisure to arrange delivery or collect your item if you wish to do so.
We passionately support quality British produce when available and try to use local suppliers whenever we can, we are very lucky to be able to make use of quality Dutch wholesalers who visit with a lorry of loveliness.
We aim to use the freshest seasonal flowers and foliage to create our designs but sometimes Mother Nature has different ideas and if a flower ever must be substituted we always add that little bit extra to make up for it.
We have an extensive range of gifts ranging from scented candles, cards, glass vases to delicious chocolates which can always be added you your order.
We only use the best quality flowers and foliage available to us from our premium British and Dutch suppliers. We will aim to use locally grown flowers if available, we do have a local grower who is happy to supply us subject to availability and of course Mother Nature.
We always use flowers that are in their correct season, for example tulips in spring NOT in summer!
All our hand tied bouquets are delivered in water so are ready to display or they can be unwrapped re- cut and arranged. They are gift wrapped in cellophane, Kraft paper or tissue and tied with grey satin ribbon and placed in a gift bag with a handwritten card.
We try to keep packaging to a minimum and ensure that some can be recycled or reused by you, for example our gift bags are not branded and ribbon can be reused.
All our green waste is recycled and we do try to do our bit for the environment.
You are more than welcome to order via our website or call us and place an order and pay over the phone using a debit or credit card. We are not able to show all of our designs on line and we always have a large selection available in our lovely shop in Horam.
Ana (I.C.F.S N.D.S. F)
Ana is the dynamic force behind The Cuckoo Flower Company and is delighted to be bringing enthusiasm, creativity, attention to detail and of course her love of flowers to East Sussex.
Over 25 years ago, Ana was lucky enough to be accepted as a trainee florist at Selfridges, Oxford St. W1. This gave her the opportunity to attend college as well as the chance to work with talented designers (who after all these years she keeps in touch with!)
These few years inspired her to progress in floristry from working at some of the most renowned flower shops in central London to Head Florist at hotels such as The Grosvenor House Hotel and The Mandarin Oriental where she developed her speciality in wedding and event flowers.
We have a handpicked team here at The Cuckoo Flower Co. whose many different skills have enabled us to offer a personal and professional service.
Our beautiful shop is located a short walk from The Cuckoo Trail . A 14 mile (23km) cycle path and walkway stretching from Hampden Park to Heathfield. It follows the route of a disused railway line which opened in 1880 and closed in 1968.
Now the Cuckoo Fair is held at Cade Street, Heathfield each April and is a major fundraising event for Demelza Hospice Care for Children although now racing pigeons are more likely to be released!
It was considered traditional many years ago to write to The Times newspaper to report your first hearing of a Cuckoo but now a catastrophic decline in cuckoo numbers threatens the cultural tradition of reporting spring’s arrival.
Legend has it that Dame Heffle ( the old name for Heathfield) would release a cuckoo from her basket to mark the first day of spring. This tradition is said to go back as far as 1315.
